Our Story

At Chaparral Buffalo Ranch, our story begins long before fences, roads, or borders. It begins with movement—of people, of animals, and of life itself across the vast northern lands that connect Alaska and Siberia.

Our heritage traces to the Arctic regions of the Bering Strait—where the cultures of the Chukchi and Siberian Yupik peoples have lived for generations in deep relationship with the land and the animals that sustained them. In these environments, survival depended on respect—respect for nature, for migration, and for balance. The same ancient pathways that carried people across continents also carried the great herds of bison.

That story continues through us.

Our roots also reach south to Persia, one of the world’s oldest civilizations—where traditions of agriculture, trade, and cultural resilience were shaped over thousands of years. From these lands, we carry a deep appreciation for cultivation, craftsmanship, and enduring identity.

Today, those histories meet in Washington State and a German wife Nicole with our kids that are Pegermican.they are a responsibility. Our work with bison is not just ranching; it is preservation. It is a continuation of a relationship that began thousands of years ago, when humans and bison moved across the same horizons.

We raise and protect our herd with care, honoring both the strength of the animal and the fragility of the ecosystem that supports it. Every step we take reflects a legacy shaped by migration, resilience, and respect.

This is more than a ranch.
It is a living connection between past and present—between continents, cultures, and the enduring story of the bison.

Heritage Narrative

Dolat, a Chukchi/Sabzevari chief, My father carries a heritage that spans from the Arctic lands of Chuckchi Tribe near Lavrentiya to the ancient region of Sabzevar in Persia. Rooted in traditions of stewardship, resilience, and deep respect for wildlife, his leadership guides Chaparral Buffalo Ranch in preserving the legacy of the bison and the land they depend on.

The Natural Strength of Buffalo

Buffalo are among the most self-sufficient animals on earth. They thrive on native grasses, adapt to the toughest conditions, and rarely require human intervention. Unlike many livestock, buffalo do not depend on man-made medications or constant treatment—making them a truly organic and natural species.

Their resilience is what makes them timeless: strong immune syst
